JAMES R. STORFER

Jim Storfer has over 45 years of financial and operational leadership experience, most recently with the Treasury function at Noble Energy, Inc. from 2010 until his second retirement in September 2015.  Before joining Noble Energy, Storfer was engaged in various consulting engagements and community services since his earlier retirement in 2001, which resulted from the merger between El Paso Energy and his company, The Coastal Corporation.

At Coastal, he lastly served as Executive Vice President – Finance & Administration for Coastal Power Company, the subsidiary for global independent power production and operation.  Previously, he held the responsibility as Senior Vice President – Finance & Administration overseeing the formation of Coastal’s unregulated natural gas subsidiary.  Starting with Coastal in 1988 in corporate finance, he was involved with dozens of project financing activities for power projects, gas pipelines, and gas storage fields; in addition, he supported various international bidding activities.

Prior to Coastal, Jim was employed by American Natural Resources as Vice President & Treasurer for the Great Plains Coal Gasification Project. Here he was responsible for financial oversight and compliance with the multi-billion dollar loans from US Treasury guaranteed by the U.S. DOE. This complimented his earlier experience in the Treasury Department with Chrysler Corporation until 1981, where he was involved with supporting negotiation and administration of the federally guaranteed loans to Chrysler. His public accounting experience was with Lybrand, Ross Bros. & Montgomery, now known as PwC.

He is a graduate of Lawrence Technological University with a bachelor’s degree in industrial management (accounting major), as well as obtaining an MBA from the executive management program at Michigan State University.  Jim also is a registered certified public accountant in Michigan since 1970 and maintains membership in both the AICPA and MICPA. In addition, Storfer was trained as a fiduciary auditor at University of Pittsburgh in 2002.

Storfer continues to be involved with various charities and community services.  He has been active with the Financial Executives International, serving in various roles with the Houston Chapter board since 2000, including chapter President. He is a director and President of the FEI Houston Scholarship Foundation (a 501(c)3 charity) since its formation in 2003 and thus continues as an ex officio member of the Chapter board.  In 2001, he helped to form the School of Ethical Practices for Fiduciaries (also a 501(c)3 charity) and co-developed ethics seminars as well as an ethics compliance audit for pension funds. This brought him in contact with the Center for Business Ethics at Houston’s University of St. Thomas, serving on the board for several years.  He currently sits on the advisory board for the St. Thomas Cameron School of Business.
